Background

Theresa Smyth

Headteacher

Prior to this headship, I worked in 4 schools in London and West Sussex. I have now been the Head at Singleton for 5 years. It is a very special school, with a fantastic team who are all focused on improving the learning and lives of the young children and families we serve. This job fills me with joy and coming to work is a privilege. I am married, have 4 children and live in Chichester - but was born in the seaside capital of the north - Blackpool!    I love to spend time walking at the beach, collecting sea glass for art projects and occasionally, when perfect weather prevails - have been known to swim!

Janet Holt

Foundation Governor

I am the grandmother of 4 grandchildren currently at Singleton school. I went to Singleton as did most of my children, and love the family feel of our small but beautifully formed school.  We have a great governing team, and together we pool our skills and resources to ensure  the children and staff  have the support to be the very best they can be.

Miss Kathryn Boyd

Staff Governor I am originally from Belfast, but moved over to Chichester many years ago to train to become a teacher! This is now my eighth year in the profession, now teaching in Years 5 and 6. Prior to joining Singleton, I worked at two other schools in the local area.  I'm thrilled to also be a staff governor at Singleton. In my spare time, I love getting out for a run, meeting friends for coffee and (during the holidays) flying home to Belfast to see family.
Maria Davis Local Authority Appointed Governor I am a recently retired headteacher having had the last 23 years of my career in special school leadership with 24 years Governance experience. I am passionate about small schools such as Singleton and how they can provide the stability and attention to nurture pupils which supports them to become both resilient and ready for the next step in their learning journeys. I moved to the Valley in 2019 and enjoy exploring the beautiful location with my dog Percy, family and friends.
Lottie Jordan Elected Parent Governor I am from a little village called Fernhurst in the South Downs National Park, and moved close to Singleton in 2022 with my husband and our two daughters. They are currently attending Singleton Primary and are thriving so I'm thrilled and excited to be part of continuing the schools great reputation. Prior to being a mother, I rode horses for a living and did everything from show jumping to hunting, and now, in my spare time I enjoy riding, going to the gym, long walks at the beach and taking our vintage tractors out for a road run- my husband is in Agriculture so we are a very outdoorsy family.
Kathy Manouch

Foundation Governor and

Vice Chair

I was born in Chichester and moved to Singleton in 2020 with my sister.  I spent 18 years working as a Practice Manager for a local optician before leaving to take on the role of Manager for the Age UK Charity shop in Chichester. I am now also a  trainer for new Age UK managers in this area.  I have served on PCCs for many years and have been a church warden.  I am interested in local and family history, love gardening, enjoy the theatre and live music.

Robert Syred Co-opted Governor I grew up in Storrington, and upon leaving college spent a year in Australia. I attended university and obtained an Honours degree in Building Surveying. I live in Tangmere with my wife Samantha and three of my five children, two of which are here at Singleton C of E Primary School. I have worked as a Surveyor and Project Manager in the brewing industry and following a life-changing accident whilst abroad, I now run my own business. I have a love of listed buildings and enjoy many outdoor activities and spending time with my family
Nat Wheeler Elected Parent Governor and Chair I grew up in the relatively local village of Portchester in Fareham and followed a traditional route through education, studying Product Design and Innovation at university. I currently live in Chichester with my wife and two young daughters (one of whom started at Singleton in 2023) and work for an engineering company developing bespoke low energy cooling solutions for data centre customers. In my (limited) spare time I enjoy working on DIY projects around our home and garden and spending time with family and friends.
